7 Houseplant natural way to freshen up your home

Best-Smelling Houseplants to Boost Your Mood

Looking for a natural way to freshen up your home? You’re in luck! Houseplants do more than brighten up a room; many of them also have wonderful scents. Adding fragrant plants to your space can create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Imagine coming home to the sweet scent of flowers or the refreshing scent of herbs.

1. Lavender

Not only does it look beautiful, it also smells amazing. If you want to bring a little bit of nature’s fragrance into your home, lavender is the way to go. It’s known for its relaxing scent that helps create a peaceful environment. There are many different types of lavender you can choose from. English lavender, such as Lavandula angustifolia, has a sweet, floral scent. If you want something a little different, French lavender has a more herbal scent, while Spanish lavender has a fresh, citrusy flavor.

2. Gardenia

This plant is known for its strong, sweet aroma. When the white flowers bloom, their fragrance fills the room and instantly transports you to a lush, fragrant garden. Gardenias aren’t just about their fragrance. Their beautiful white flowers stand out against the glossy dark, green leaves, creating a striking visual contrast. It’s like having a piece of art in your living room!

3. Hoya

Have you ever had a hoya in your home? If not, you’re missing out on one of the best-smelling houseplants! Hoya plants are often called wax plants because of their thick, waxy leaves. They’re not only beautiful; they also smell amazing. One of my favorites is the Hoya Lagunasa, which has a delightful jasmine-like scent. Imagine walking into a room and feeling like you’re in a garden! Another amazing option is the Hoya Memoria, known for its caramel-like scent.

4. Orchid

Who doesn’t love orchids? 🌸 These amazing plants come in a variety of colors and sizes, making them a favorite for indoor gardens. Orchids have the unique ability to bloom indoors and provide a pleasant fragrance that can fill an entire room. One of my favorites is the Cattleya orchid, known for its large, brightly colored flowers and sweet fragrance.

Some orchids, such as the Phalaenopsis or “moth orchid,” are easy to care for and perfect for beginners. They have beautiful blooms that can last for months with proper care. Plus, their fragrance is light and lovely!

5. Eucalyptus

This plant doesn’t just smell good; it’s also very low-maintenance. Eucalyptus loves bright light, so place it near a sunny window. To avoid overwatering, let the soil dry out a bit between waterings. Essential oils are often used in cold and congestion remedies. Imagine having a natural decongestant in your living room!

6. Scented Geranium

An interesting fact about scented geraniums is that their leaves are the stars of the show. Unlike other plants with fragrant flowers, these beauties have fragrant leaves. If you keep them indoors, make sure they get plenty of light to thrive. They are perfect for windowsills or bright rooms. Some popular ones include the 'Rose' scented geranium and the 'Lemon' scented geranium, both of which bring a refreshing aroma to your home.

7. Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea flowers are my favorite! 🌸 These amazing plants not only look beautiful, but they also smell amazing. You can bring a touch of whimsy to your indoor garden with Sweet Peas. These delightful flowers come in a variety of colors, including pink, purple, and white. They are perfect for adding a fresh touch to any room.
